“Baldr the Good dreamed about his early death. So the gods sought safety for him and took oaths, that fire and water should spare him, likewise iron and metal, stones, trees, beasts, sicknesses.
And then it was a diversion of Baldr's and the gods, that he should stand up and all the others should some shoot at him, some hew at him, some beat him with stones; but whatsoever was done hurt him not.
When Loki saw this, it pleased him ill that Baldr took no hurt. So he went to the gods, in disguise, and asked: 'Have all things taken oaths to spare Baldr?' They answered: 'There grows a tree-sprout alone, it is called Mistletoe; we thought it too young to ask the oath of.'
Then Loki took Mistletoe and pulled it up and went to Hoth, who was blind, and said: 'Do after the manner of the others and show Baldr honor. I will direct you where he stands; shoot at him with this wand.'
Hoth took Mistletoe and shot: the shaft flew through Baldr, and he fell dead to the earth.”
