Loki gave an eight-legged horse to Odin, telling him that it was the swiftest on earth, and could bear him over the sea to and from the land of the dead:

oldest of gods,

harnessed Sleipnir,

the eight-legged,

to the nether world rode,

to Hel’s Deep.
