serpent (saga/II)

for chamber ensemble (2002)

Loki had three monstrous children: Fenrir, Hel and Jörmungandr. When Odin became aware of their existence he banished them to remote places. He tossed Jörmungandr, the serpent, into the great ocean that encircled the world. The worm grew so big that he was able to surround the world and grasp his own tail, and as a result he became known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent.
